  • "Property was lovely thank you."

Perhaps the addition of a BBQ would be good.

We are so pleased Windy Heath met with your expectations. Our aim is to make guest holidays relaxing and trouble free. A BBQ is supplied (on request) as detailed in the property details which ensures the BBQ is clean for incoming guests as well as being to the highest standard. A quick call to me and this could have been arranged. Thank you again for your feedback and valuable comments and hope to welcome you back to the South Hams in 2024 and to Windy Heath. • "We had a lovely holiday at Windy Heath, wish we had booked two weeks not one."

The views are amazing, the house and garden is lovely and we couldn't keep out of the pool. If you are looking to book a home away from home look no further, everything you could possibly need. I phoned for the BBQ as this has to be requested and it arrived in no time at all. We loved North sands, fantastic beach and shallow water for children and pets. Pennywell Farm and Woodlands are close by and well worth a visit. Only slight down side are the narrow lanes but think this is the norm throughout Devon and Cornwall.

Thank you for your comments and we are so pleased that you enjoyed Windy Heath and the South Hams. There are many activities and with the beaches only a short walk pleased to know they met with your approval. I have noted your feedback on the standard and will do everything possible to improve on Comfort and Cleanliness. If there are any specific points in these areas then please let me know. The narrow lanes can be a challenge, but despite these we hope welcome you back in 2024. Property Owner

  • "The house is very well apppointed, with new appliances and an excellent kitchen and utility room."

The pool was beautifully warm, even for tiny babies and the pool house and surrounds delightful. The views are stunning too. We hope to come again. The only suggestions we would make are that it would be good to have a travel cot and bedding available, bearing in mind there is a high chair and also a barbeque.

Thank you for your constructive comments and feedback which we hope helps to improve guest experience at Windy Heath. We are so pleased you enjoyed the stunning sea views and the pool too. I apologise for not having a the travel cot available. I have taken action on your comment and one is now at the property. However on the linen we ask that guests bring their own linen for the cot. There is a BBQ at Windy Heath which is available on request and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. We do hope you return to Salcombe area and we would love to welcome you back to Windy Heath. Owner. Property Owner

  • "We had the most wonderful week at Windy Heath."

We’ve been coming to South Sands for many years to holiday but this was by far the best accommodation we’ve stayed in. If anything the pictures don’t do it justice. The views, location to beach, walks and amenities was absolutely perfect. We were so sad to leave. Some constructive feedback would be to provide a large cafetière (there was only a single cup one). We also thought it was a little stingy not to leave any welcome pack what so ever, not even a absolute milk, tea and coffee. We run holiday lets and always leave a little something to welcome people in. By no means a big grumble, everything else was perfect for us. Please pass our thanks on to the owner. We’ll be back.

Please accept my apologies for a slow reply. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your compliments. Each season we strive to improve the Windy Heath experience. Guest feedback is always helpful and we are sorry to have fallen short of your expectations. Addressing your points, i can confirm a large cafetiere is now in place, as are arrival tea, coffee and milk facilities. I am reviewing welcome pack options. Thank you for choosing Windy Heath and hope to welcome you back to the South Hams and to Windy Heath very soon. Owner. Property Owner

We found morning walks followed by an afternoon by a good pool very relaxing. The house is well equipped and we especially appreciated the owners personal contact to ensure we were settling in ok at the beginning of the holiday. Thank you for sharing your home

  • "The refurbishments were great and we love the location."

Unfortunately, there was a large pile of dog poo bags left in the middle of the path which was very unpleasant but quickly removed when we reported. The biggest issue was the large scale building works on the house door. Luckily, we are early risers but for anyone wanting a lie in this would not be possible. I would have liked to have been made aware of this as I would probably have chosen another property.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed Windy Heath and the location, it really is a beautiful spot. We were sorry you encountered dog poo bags at the property, but pleased that the team removed these as soon as reported. In regard to the noise disruption the owners have informed us that the caretaker is in communication with the neighbours who are having works completed to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum, we believe the caretaker did speak with them during your stay and we hope this improved the situation. We hope that you still enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back to the area again soon. Owner relations team on behalf of, Property Owner

  • "We all had a lovely relaxing holiday."

The house and pool were excellent and we could all sit and look at the view for hours. The house was very comfortable and great amenities for a 3 generational family holiday. Only slight niggles were that our small dogs could get through the hedges into next door's garden so the garden wasn't completely secure. A larger dog would problem be ok though. Also that the master bedroom was made up as a king size when we asked for twin beds.

  • "Windy Heath provides the home from home experience my family enjoys for our holiday."

The re fitted kitchen is a very positive addition to the property. The setting of the house and views remains special to my family. However, we are a family who needs our sleep. We found the mattresses on the 3 sea facing bedrooms very difficult, they offered no back support at all, and resulted in family sleeping on the sofa. I appreciate beds can be a personal choice, but feel with the price of the holiday, a quality mattress should be provided. The only bed with this level of quality is the garden facing room. We would like to return for a holiday at Windy Heath, but the beds would be a problem for us. With the upgrade of mattresses I would grade the property 4 Star. If in the future I am able to book a holiday at Windy Heath directly with Coast and Country through the Salcombe office that would be OK. I would never use Sykes Cottages Company again for any holiday booking.

  • "Sadly not up to standard for price."

Left very disappointed: I called FIVE times to have the master separated into singles – very rude management company and owner - STILL wasn’t done when we arrived (despite advertising this feature). ALL beds should be replaced – VERY soft and uncomfortable. Property is tired and needs a revamp in particular the kitchen and bathrooms. Fridge is terrible – left 5 items in on first night – by morning they had not cooled. Rude owner told us we had overloaded it. Had to use pool fridge for majority of week – no one came to look despite requests. Toilet in en-suite broken – took half the week to be fixed – no apology or mention. THEN charged £75 for a 1cm rip in the pool cover that WAS NOT THERE WHEN WE LEFT. Pool manager even said everything was fine. Have received ZERO responses to my emails – just taken the money and walked. Owner clearly shouldn’t be letting the property – Sykes you should ban him. Despite allure of a pool, avoid at all costs. There are much better properties to rent in Salcombe for the same or less money with much friendlier owners.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback which is invaluable as this allows owners to continuously improve standards . We apologise that the master bed was not made as you requested, this would have been rectified immediately had we been informed. We are disappointed you found the beds uncomfortable as they have all been replaced in the last 12 months. In our experience, bed preference is very personal and guests' requirements can vary. We are pleased to confirm that the kitchen is being totally replaced and updated in January 2022. The bathrooms are also scheduled for refurbishing in the near future. The owner was surprised to learn of your comments re your conversation with him as he had not called or received a call from you. Our office emailed you on 3 separate occasions regarding the fridge but unfortunately had no further response. The fridge report is baffling as there has been no issues with the fridge before or since your visit, so we are unable to explain the reported drop in temperature. The WC was repaired as soon as the caretaker sourced the parts required, fortunately, there are 2 further WC's in the property. The pool company visit before and after each guest to check the pool condition and any maintenance requirements. The tear to the pool cover which was not present prior to your visit was reported after your departure. Please accept our apologies if you felt our management was not up to its usual high standard despite our attempts to contact you and aside from these matters you had an enjoyable holiday in Salcombe. On speaking with the owner and as a gesture of good will he has agreed to waive the deduction for repairs to the pool cover from the GHB. If you do choose to holiday in the South Hams the owner would hope Windy Heath be your property of choice. Property Owner

Lovely gardens, but the WiFi is a bit irregular and the narrow steep roads can be a bit unnerving when you meet someone coming the other way. The property is very spacious and the terrace was lovely to have meals on and barbecue, with the stunning view.

  • "We found Sykes staff very unhelpful when contacting them prior to our trip."

The information provided by them changed depending on who you spoke to .They seemed to lack communication with the key collection office and the owners of the property. Paid a large amount for a house for 6 days, did not get our moneys worth at all.House was sub standard, cleaning issues, key collection shambolic, no wifi, no signal, dated furniture, locked cupboards throughout the house , personnel items in drawers, the list goes on in afraid !

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay at Windy Heath. It is disappointing to read that the key collection and drop off was not as smooth as we would expect and apologies you were not able to access the property earlier than the designated check in time as discussed prior to your holiday. We work extremely hard with our owners, cleaners and caretakers to ensure that our properties are presented to our high expectations. We are disappointed that the cleaning issues and Wi-Fi issues were not reported upon your arrival, as we would have been able to send back the caretakers to rectify these points. We do ask that our owners have their own locked cupboards for their personal belongings and is very common in self-catering properties but we apologise if this was a surprise to you. We hope you still managed to enjoy your first visit to Salcombe and the area and hope that you enjoyed our little fishing village enough to visit again in the future. Property Owner
