Review On TOFU Scented Candle Making Kit DIY Gift Set (Amazon) – By Ella, Age 9

This is my review on making candles using the TOFU scented making kit.

The kit came in a lovely gift box. When I opened the box it smelt like a field of lavender. The kit includes beeswax, 6 large candle tins which are really nice, melting pot, fragrance oils, dyes, thermometer and wicks.

This is my step by step on how to make the candles.

  1. First choose a pot and get the wick and put a sticky glue dot (included)at the bottom.
  2. To keep the wick in place and balance a lollipop stick with holes in.
  3. Pour the beeswax into the melting pot one bay of beeswax is enough to make two candles.
  4. Add the dye block of your choice I chose purple and it made a really nice lilac colour(the colour will be lighter than you think).
  5. Next we melted the wax on the hob. My mum helped me with this as the wax got hot. It took about 5-10 minutes to melt.
  6. Once the wax was melted I used the thermometer to check its temperature. It was about 65 degrees C so that was just right for adding fragrance.
  7. I chose to add two fragrances, Lavender and Rose and put a few drops of each into the melted wax.
  8. When the wax had cooled down a little bit to about 55 degrees C I poured it into my two candle tins, being careful not to spill it.
  9. Next I let the candles cool down and once they cooled down I cut the wick to the right length so it wasn’t too long.

I think this candle making kit is quite good for older children about age 9 and over as you have to melt the wax and also my mum enjoyed helping me. I would recommend this kit.

FAQ’s Candle Making Kits

Is It Hard To Make Your Own Candles?

No, it’s not hard, but candles do need to be made using the correct supplies and equipment. Candle making kits are a great starting point if you are interested in making candles at home.

What Wax Is Best For Candle Making?

Soy wax is simple to melt, eco-friendly and a popular choice for homemade candles. Derived from soybean oil it has a longer burn time than paraffin wax.

Why Are My Homemade Candles Sinking In The Middle?

Because the wax cannot stick to the wick. Try pouring it in at a cooler temperature or try a second pour, to fill the gap and leave a smooth surface.
