How Families Can Save £1000s By Choosing A Term Time Holiday!

After the breaking news that Derbyshire county council WON’T be issuing any more term time holiday fines for the immediate future, we’ve compared the following holidays to see JUST how much you could save when booking outside of the popular (and expensive) school holidays.

Summer Holiday 2017

  • In school holidays

A family of two adults and three children taking a holiday in Majorca during the peak summer school holidays, would be looking at paying a staggering £1,190.62 if travelling from London Gatwick and departing 1st August, 2017 – at the start of the summer holidays…

*If those folks in Derbyshire had to stick to the pricier school holiday packages too, travelling on 13th August, 2017, they’d be looking at paying £1,308.31 when departing from East Midlands airport, for the same package holiday  – click here to see >

  • During term time

However, the same holiday taken during term time would only cost £824.78, for the exact same package. This example is based on a package deal found at OnTheBeach… it’s advertising a seven night self-catering stay at at Arcos Playa Apartments. Flights depart from London Gatwick on 31st August, 2017 which clashes with the first few days of the new school year for most parents.

*But, those lucky folks in Derbyshire who can now travel ‘fine free’ during term time can bag the same package deal for just about half price at only £656.25 when departing from East Midlands airport on 2nd September, 2017click here to see >

Easter Holiday 2017

  • In school holidays

That dream family trip to Florida is where substantial savings could be made. A family of two adults, two children, staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort for 14 nights, departing on 1st April, 2017 – during the school Easter holidays – would be looking to pay a whacking £6941 for this package holiday.

*If those folks in Derbyshire had to stick to the Easter Holidays (3rd – 21st April, 2017) we think they’d be pretty hard pushed to find any package holiday AT ALL which departed from East Midlands to Florida during this period – we couldn’t find any…!

  • During term time

But… the exact same holiday would cost less than half price if departing during term time from London Gatwick on the 9th March, 2017 at just £3,254… that’s quite a saving!

*If however you live in Derbyshire and can travel ‘fine free’ from East Midlands airport during term time, you can bag a similar package deal for £2,304 – including 14 nights in Florida departing 6th May, 2017 – click here to see >

Christmas Holiday 2016

  • In school holidays

That dream holiday to Lapland will cost considerably more if travelling during the Christmas school holidays on the 20th December, 2016 – you’d be looking to pay around £4,287.42 with Monarch who are offering flights and three nights accommodation for a family of two adults, two children.lapland2

  • During term time

However, any parents planning a surprise Christmas getaway to Lapland for the kids, during term time, would be able to afford a LOT of extra presents if they go before term finishes. For the same package above, plus an extra nights accommodation, you’ll only pay £3,094.92 if you fly on 2nd December 2016 – that’s less money and more time!

This move by Derbyshire County Council is going to bring confusion and anger among families and huge pressure on county councils across the country.

The situation has become a shambles as neither knows where they stand.

Unless the Minister of State for Schools is able to convince them not to, other councils will begin to follow suit and there will be chaos.

Rather than funding this issue at the Supreme Court, the Department of Education needs to listen again to what families are saying and reconsider what is an inflexible and unpopular policy.
