A report in the Daily Mail advises Brits NOT to post details of their forthcoming holidays on social media.
Why? Because, the Mail says:
Insurers are increasingly checking people’s social media accounts following a break-in to see if they announced that they would be away from the property, and are using it as a reason not to pay out.
And while some have doubted the risk, a spokesman for the Financial Ombudsman Service recently provided official comment, confirming the situation:
It’s possible that your insurance cover could be affected if you explicitly announce your plans on social media. You wouldn’t put a poster up on your front lawn saying you’re going on holiday.
