The Most Important Features To Consider

There are so many different types of camping blankets, the choice can be overwhelming. Before buying one it’s essential you have a think over your needs and what features you require.

Warmth

If your going to a warm climate the best camping blanket wouldn’t need to be insulated, but would need to be breathable to stop sweating.

However, You will need a warm camping blanket that insulates and traps heat if you are going to be in a cold climate.

Packed Size

Weight and size are factors to consider when choosing the best camping blanket.

You will want one that will keep you warm and dry, however, keep in mind that you may be carrying this blanket or have limited space to store it.

Comfort

If your blanket isn’t comfy. you won’t use it. Consider the material and the thickness of a blanket. If you intend to sleep with it, will it be scratchy or harsh . Will it keep you warm and dry or will it make you sweat?

Design Features And Materials

Weather will impact which material or design features are best for your camping blanket. You will need a waterproof blanket if you are camping in wet weather, no ifs or buts!

A waterproof blanket will help keep you comfortable, even if you are camping in warm weather, it will not feel very warm if you’re soaking wet.

Polyester is a synthetic fibre that is waterproof, lightweight and extremely warm. It is also insulating and breathable.

Fleece is lightweight and very warm and dries quickly if it gets wet. However, not great for around the campfire as extremely flammable.

Purpose

Consider what your camping blanket will be used for.

Is it for an all round blanket for warmth, picnics and shelter or is it intended to snuggle up in at night time?

Down insulated and cosy camping blankets do not make great shelters but lightweight compact blankets make great extra layers!

Camping Blankets FAQs

Can you use an electric blanket camping?

Yes! Electric blankets are often used by campers in tents and motorhomes.

They are made up of fabric with wires woven through them, which produce heat when electricity is passed through the wires.

An electric blanket can either be plugged directly into an electrical outlet or powered by batteries, so there’s no need for cords running all over your tent!

However, You need to ensure the electric blanket you choose is suitable. You wouldn’t want an electric cord getting wet in bad weather or someone tripping over it at night and you need to check the electricity requirements for where you are camping.
